Sam Coleman, a 2022 South Harrison alum, participated in the Welding program at NCCC and is now thriving as a Specialty Welder at a Chevron plant in southeast Texas.
During his time in the welding program, Sam honed his skills in welding everything from pipe to plate. "Mr. Cook was always there if I needed help with anything or needed to watch him do it first," Sam reflects. This hands-on learning environment prepared him well for the challenges he would face in the workforce.
Sam now works for JVIC Specialty Services, where he ensures that every weld he completes is perfect and can pass an X-ray. "You can learn as much as you want in the class as long as you're willing to learn and take it all in. I was definitely set up to succeed after graduation," he says.
Sam’s advice to current students is simple: "Get out there in different states while you're young and get connected with companies who pay well and stay with them. If you treat the company well and make everything perfect, you will make a good name for yourself and they will keep calling wanting your work."
Sam’s journey shows how CTE opens doors to exciting opportunities, and his success is a testament to the value of hard work and a willingness to learn.
He is a true example of what South Harrison believes—preparing productive problem solvers for the future, thanks to our Career and Technical Education happening at NCCC!
