While attending the Missouri SkillsUSA State Leadership & Skills Conference, students from the North Central Career Center SkillsUSA Chapter took time to explore one of Missouri’s most historic landmarks!

During their visit to Missouri State Capitol, students toured the first four floors, learning about the building’s rich history, stunning architecture, and meaningful artwork. A highlight of the tour was viewing A Social History of the State of Missouri, the famous mural by Thomas Hart Benton located in the House lounge.

The group also wrapped up their visit at the Missouri State Museum, where they explored the natural and cultural history of the Show-Me State.

🐾📚 National CTE Month Spotlight: Early Childhood Careers at NCCC 📚🐾

The Early Childhood Careers program at North Central Career Center, taught by Ms. Cas, provides students with an incredible real-world learning experience by allowing them to help operate Puppy Pound Preschool right inside the classroom. As students learn about child development and early education, they get to put their learning into practice daily by working hands-on with 3- and 4-year-old preschool students.

In addition to their classroom preschool experience, students also have opportunities to work with programs such as Head Start and collaborate with teachers and age levels across the South Harrison School District. Graduates of the program have the opportunity to earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, allowing them to enter the early childhood workforce immediately after graduation. This credential also creates a strong foundation for students interested in future careers such as teaching, social work, or family counseling.

This program can also help jump start a student’s college pathway, as students can graduate with 9 hours of college credit in education through NCCC’s articulation partnership with North Central Missouri College.

Ms. Cas is also the sponsor of SkillsUSA, NCCC’s Career & Technical Student Organization. SkillsUSA empowers students to develop personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics. Last year, NCCC earned the SkillsUSA Missouri GOLD Chapter of Distinction, recognizing the outstanding work and leadership demonstrated by the chapter. Early Childhood student Anna Owens currently serves on the Northwest District SkillsUSA officer team as Historian, and NCCC recently hosted the NW District Fall Leadership Conference, where 13 NCCC members earned their District Leadership Certificate. Students have also given back to the community through a Holiday meal food drive that helped provide meals to three local families.

NCCC is proud of the success of Early Childhood alumni, including Chloe Wooden and Riley Moreno who have worked as preschool paras, Lily Sittner and Amaris Jennings (former SkillsUSA state officer) who have worked in Head Start facilities, and Abby Clawson, Maycee Ragan, Keeleigh Fish, and Kerri Ruch who have continued on to college to pursue teaching careers.

Real-world learning, leadership development, and career-ready preparation—this is CTE in action at NCCC! 💜

🚗 National CTE Month Spotlight: Auto Collision at NCCC 🚗

The Auto Collision program at North Central Career Center, taught by Mr. Williams, offers students hands-on experience in both Auto Collision I and Auto Collision II. In this program, students learn how to repair vehicles damaged in collisions back to pre-accident condition, while also gaining experience in the basics of the vehicle restoration process.

Students build real-world skills such as:
- Panel repair and replacement
- Filler techniques
- Welding
- Frame straightening
- Suspension diagnosis
- Refinishing

This program prepares students with the knowledge and work ethic needed to earn an entry-level position in a collision repair or restoration facility, while also emphasizing the professional skills required to succeed in today’s automotive industry.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA, and will earn their ASE Student Certification along with articulation credit that can be used at NCMC.

Each year, NCCC graduates continue into the collision repair industry, with many working at local dealerships and collision/restoration shops. Others have expanded into related automotive careers including PDR, welding fabrication, mechanic shops, and automotive parts distribution.

Hands-on training. Real-world experience. Career-ready success. This is CTE in action at NCCC! 🔧💪
