🩺 National CTE Month Spotlight: Health Occupations at NCCC 🩺

The Health Occupations program at North Central Career Center prepares students for entry-level positions and continued education in the healthcare field by building both hands-on patient-care skills and essential soft skills. Students learn vital skills such as:

- Measuring vital signs
- Infection control and safety standards
- Emergency response
- Medical terminology and documentation
- Effective patient communication

These real-world skills help students feel confident and prepared as they take their next steps into healthcare careers.

Students in the program will have the opportunity to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification when testing takes place in April, providing a strong foundation for immediate employment or further education in healthcare.

Even in just her second year of teaching, Mrs. Carrol has already seen student success beyond NCCC. One standout alumna, Griffin Smith, is currently serving as President of the LPN Program at NCMC and has earned additional scholarships while continuing her education. Griffin consistently demonstrated a caring heart, empathy, and leadership in the classroom—qualities that have clearly carried over into her college and career journey.

Preparing compassionate, skilled, and career-ready healthcare professionals—this is CTE in action at NCCC. 💙

🔨 National CTE Month Spotlight: Carpentry at NCCC 🔨

Students in the Carpentry program at North Central Career Center get hands-on, real-world experience building homes from the ground up! Under the instruction of Eric Sweat, students in Construction Technology 1 spend three-hour blocks working at the project house, learning everything from residential framing, roofing, siding, and drywall to window/door installation, cabinets, trim, and paint.

Fourth-hour students in Intro to Carpentry focus on home improvement projects, power tool safety, and small shop projects, building the skills they’ll use in real-life construction work. Along the way, students also get exposure to other trades like HVAC, plumbing, and electrical—preparing them for a variety of career paths.

Many former students have gone on to become professional carpenters in the area and beyond, showing how CTE at NCCC creates career-ready graduates with real-world skills. Students also have the opportunity to participate in SkillsUSA, the Career & Technical student leadership organization, with competitions coming up next month!
