Future Teachers of America Attend State Convention

Students from across the state met in Columbia, Missouri Wednesday, Oct. 24 for the Future Teachers of America (FTA) state leadership meeting. the theme for the meeting was, “The Teaching Games”.
South Harrison officers, Cali Slaughter, President; Payton Kinnison, Vice President; Adam King, Secretary; Courtney Wagner, Treasurer; Walker Thomas, StuCo Rep.; and Hannah Thompson, StuCo Rep., attended the conference from South Harrison.
South Harrison was one of 25 chapters represented at the meeting.
Terri Hulett from Salisbury R-IV School was the keynote speaker. She has been teaching for the past 37 years and will be retiring in May of 2013. The Cadet Teacher of the Year was Nathan Olson, a student from Willard RII. The program also included the eclection of new FTA State Officers for the coming year. The Salisbury Drumline also performed for the state conventions entertainment.
“FTA is an excellent way for high school students to explore careers in education,” said Rachel Webb, FTA State consultant. “If anyone needs optimism about the future of teaching, watching the kids at the FTA meeting would provide it.”
The Missouri State Teachers Association is the leading education association in the state celebrating 156 years of service to Missouri educators and with over 44,000 members. MSTA headquarters is in Columbia, Missouri.
