Title 1

The South Harrison Elementary and Middle School are Title I schools.  The schools have the designation of "school-wide" Title I.   We have also maintained our Title I reading and math resource classes.  These classes are for students who need a minimal amount of help for them to be successful in the regular classroom.
Students in these programs are given 25-35 minutes of instruction from the Title I reading or math teacher.  The students work on skills they need for them to be successful.  Activities are designed to coordinate with the objectives that are being taught in the regular classroom.  The activities are sometimes remedial in nature and at other times are designed as enrichment.

Students are referred by the grade level teachers. The teachers will look at current data from all students in the grade level and submit students that are falling behind on their classroom objective they are focusing on currently.  Those students will then get extra support to reach their potential on that objective.  The students can be moved out and to the Title Reading and Math program as needed throughout the school year according to their needs.  The goal of the Title I classes are to help the child progress to the point where they will not need any help outside of the regular classroom.

The Schoolwide Program Plan is available to parents and the public by stopping by the Director of Special Service office or by request and will be in a uniform format that is understandable and provided in a language appropriate for the readers needs.

We value your input!  If you have thoughts or concerns about our Title I program please send them to:
